The project proposal 'Business games à la carte' has been given a subsidy of €1.2 million by the Action programme M&ICT. Business games à la carte is a joint venture of Simenco, the colleges of Hogeschool INHOLLAND, Fontys Hogescholen, Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden and the publishers HBuitgevers. Business games à la carte allows teachers in higher vocational education to make custom made games themselves using modules. The project is expected to finish early in 2010.

Business games à la carte is an electronic library for business games in higher vocational education. Game modules are developed as separate building blocks for this library. Teachers can then combine them at their discretion and according to their needs to create custom made games. These games will enable them to improve the entrepreneurial skills of their students in an effective and attractive way.

The Actieprogramma M&ICT (Action programme M&ICT) is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. What the M&ICT aims to achieve is that successful, small-scale ICT applications in the education, mobility, security and care sectors are used in a wider range. The cabinet has made €80 million available for the Action programme M&ICT. In order to distribute the subsidy funds, the Action programme organises competitions. The project proposal Business games à la carte won the competition in the Education category. The jury's report said this about Business games à la carte: ‘The jury is of the opinion that there is an interesting concept, which makes gaming material more flexible, better and cheaper for educational purposes. […] The joint venture is solid, and consists of three colleges, a game supplier and a national publisher. […] Overall, it's an attractive and well worked-out proposal.’
